OpinionSpy added to Mac OS X quarantine

Posted on March 21st, 2011 at 5:33 PM EDT

In Mac OS X 10.6.7, Apple quietly added a definition for the OpinionSpy malware to the Mac OS X quarantine system. Personally, I didn’t think OpinionSpy was much of a threat. I mean, it actually tells you that it is going to install software that will collect your personal information! Although it’s still not clear what information is collected or what is done with that information, it is poor malware indeed that warns you about installing it. Still, it’s best to be cautious about this sort of thing, so I suppose it makes sense to add this to quarantine.
